As a Territory Underwriter Specialist for our Northeast Regional operation, you’ll market and underwrite Sentry’s products and services to select Commercial Lines independent agents and brokers in a defined territory. You will manage and coordinate the sales and placement of middle market business with premium sizes up to $500K in a wide variety of classes and lines of business.

What You’ll Do

The Territory Underwriter Specialist will be responsible for agent and broker relationships.  The ideal candidate will work from home and reside within the territory, working with the Northeast Regional Office based in Windsor, CT.

In addition, you’ll:

  • Take the lead on new agency appointments including profit sharing plans and contingency agreements.
  • Be responsible for establishing agency production goals with our agency partners, and continuous monitoring of results vs. plan throughout the year.
  • Solicit accounts through select agents and brokers
  • Evaluate, underwrite and price prospective accounts to select independent agents
  • Serve as the primary contact with assigned agents and brokers
  • Provide comprehensive sales expertise to increase production through agency channels
  • Work with assigned agents and brokers on the coordinating of resolutions

What it Takes

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience with property and casualty business
  • Minimum of 5 years (7+ preferred) of experience with an insurance carrier, commercial agency or brokerage
  • Knowledge of the New England marketplace, and preferably existing or past relationships with larger independent agents is desirable
  • Previous technical insurance experience, preferably with sales
  • Experience with underwriting large complex accounts
  • Highly motivated self starter with the drive to be a top performer
  • Exceptional communication, organization and selling skills
  • Strong business and pipeline development skills
  • Ability to travel and have a valid driver’s license with the ability to maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record
  • Ability to meet travel requirements of at least 25% of the time
  • Completion or in the process of taking insurance courses such as IIA and CPCU preferred

  • Based on experience and qualifications, the salary range is $135,125 - $185,840
