About Our Branch

The Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales Branch Library is a bustling hub serving the West Colfax, Villa Park, and Sun Valley neighborhoods, as well as Denver's Historic Jewish Community. Situated in a vibrant area near numerous schools, parks, and businesses along the Colfax Avenue and Federal Blvd. corridor, our library warmly welcomes all members of the community. We see many children & families during the day for Early Learning programs and have a strong teen presence after school. Open seven days a week, we offer a diverse range of services including access to our extensive collection, community spaces, study rooms, and a technology center. Experience our multicultural Plaza events, Digital Arts and Media Music Recording Studio, and satisfy your curiosity in our IdeaLAB/Makerspace.

About the job:

DPL is hiring a Library Assistant II for the Rodolfo "Corky" Gonzales Branch.  You will be spending most of your time at customer-facing service points, welcoming a diverse population with respect and dignity, and creating a safe library space where all are free to explore and connect. You’ll make positive experiences for library customers by checking out and returning books, registering customers for library cards, ordering books and other library materials from other agencies, and responding to customer questions about using library resources.

You will assist customers with both library and personal technology.

You’ll use library technology and other tools to efficiently process and route library materials with accuracy and attention to detail while staying current on circulation policies and procedures. You’ll grow as you support the library's goal of being a learning organization by participating in approved learning opportunities, and support through action the Library's mission, vision and values and goals. You’ll assist with shelving, collection maintenance, and outreach projects.

About You: 

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, physically active work environment with constant public contact.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude, cultural sensitivity, compassion and a sense of humor when working with customers and colleagues of all ages and backgrounds.

  • Skill in interpreting, communicating and presenting information to a diverse audience with experience explaining services to customers of varying ages and education levels.

  • Skill in cash and credit card handling and making simple mathematical computations.

  • Ability to use workplace technology effectively including email, calendar, internet, databases, video conferencing, and other software, plus a willingness to learn new technology as needed. 

  • An equity-driven approach to team dynamics with the ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate, and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.

  • Ability to adapt to the ebb and flow of materials intake and stay focused on repetitive tasks in a busy and physically-demanding environment.

We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum qualifications will be considered:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.

  • One year of customer service experience that included working on a computer.

  • A second language fluency is a definite plus!

Other Things You Should Know:

Current working hours are Sundays 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Wednesday 8:00 am - 6:00 pm, and Thursday 1:30 pm - 8:00 pm.
