University Student Assistant - Environmental Health & Safety (Spring 2025)

Position Summary: 

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Services Team Member plays a crucial role in protecting the environment, ensuring the safety of JAX STATE, and providing a healthy work environment. The EHS department is dedicated to keeping the university compliant with local, state and federal regulations. In this position, you will assist the EHS Manager with various tasks around campus to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Responsibilities will include checking emergency lights, fire alarms, and inspecting mechanical and electrical rooms for compliance. The EHS department collaborates with Capital Planning and Facilities, outside contractors, and faculty and staff in pursuit of our goal to maintain a safe and compliant university.

Positions may be filled based on individual applicants’ skills, qualifications, and departmental needs.

Adheres to all department and University policies and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Check emergency lighting and exit lights monthly in all buildings across the main and south campuses.
• Inspect mechanical and electrical rooms every quarter from the checklist.
• Assist EHS manager with stormwater inspections.
• Assist the   EHS manager with replacing the fire extinguishers as needed.
• Additional duties as required by the department. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Applicants must be enrolled as a JSU student taking at least three (3) hours per fall or spring semester. (Requirements for international students below. *)
• If not a first-time student, the applicant must have a GPA of 2.00 or higher.
• Selected applicants must provide evidence of student enrollment and GPA (unofficial transcript or printout of enrollment/GPA from MyJSU.
