Summary

SRP is seeking a motivated College Intern to support our teams while gaining handson experience in a collaborative, missiondriven environment. This internship offers students the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to realworld projects that support SRP’s commitment to delivering reliable, sustainable water and power services. Interns will work closely with experienced professionals, contribute to meaningful work, and develop technical and professional skills relevant to their field of study. The role is designed to foster learning, teamwork, and innovation while providing exposure to SRP’s operations and culture. This is an excellent opportunity for students who are eager to learn, grow, and make an impact while exploring a future career with SRP. 

The student intern will work daily scheduled hours based on the department’s needs, with a minimum requirement of 15 hours and up to 40 hours per week maximum.

What You'll Do

  • Perform voltage drop and voltage flicker calculations in support of electric distribution system designs
  • Assist with fault current studies, cable pulling calculations, and other engineering design calculations related to overhead and underground distribution facilities
  • Learn and apply SRP engineering standards, design criteria, and construction practices when performing design reviews
  • Assist Distribution Design Engineers with enhanced service requests, including load increases, new services, and system upgrades
  • Participate in field observations to support design validation and gain exposure to construction and commissioning activities
  • Perform structural analysis of overhead (OH) distribution facilities, including poles, conductors, and attachments
  • Assist engineers with ampacity studies for various underground cable configurations using tools such as USAMP Prime

Education

College level coursework (100+) from an accredited institution will be evaluated on an individual basis according to the skill/level to determine if applicable to the position by management.

Additional Requirements and Qualifications

Preferred Education

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Completion of, or current enrollment in, college‑level coursework related to power systems, circuits, or energy systems

 

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work collaboratively in a team environment, and manage assigned tasks
  • Ability to work in both office and field settings as required by the department
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electri
