Description

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington is seeking a full time faculty position as an Associate Professor or full Professor of Clinical Practice to join the Division of Cardiology as the Director of the Echocardiography Laboratory.

 Expectations for echo lab director:

  • Develops strong communication, team management, and interpersonal skills to collaborate with physicians, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop a national reputation in both clinical excellence and research in the field of non-invasive imaging.
  • Develop expertise in research methods, maintain a successful research career, and mentor faculty and trainees in scholarly work.
  • Ensures the accuracy, quality, and appropriateness of all echocardiographic procedures and images. This includes overseeing quality assurance programs for echocardiography.
  • Lead initiatives to improve echocardiography lab performance, implement new processes, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. 
  • Develop strategic plans for the echocardiography lab in collaboration with the division of cardiology, heart center and hospital, including business development and marketing, while tracking market trends and growth opportunities.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train a multidisciplinary team of physicians, sonographers, trainees and administrative staff

General expectations for non-invasive imaging:

  • Engage in clinical activities in a wide range of non-invasive cardiac imaging modalities.
  • Perform and interpret imaging and physiologic data needed to understand underlying pre and postoperative simple and complex cardiac congenital pathologies in neonates, and children
  • Serves as an attending physician in the Echocardiography Laboratory at Seattle Children's Hospital. Timely completion of echocardiogram interpretation and reporting of results with appropriate communication to referring providers.
  • Participates in task forces and committees as requested by the applicable service line or Seattle Children’s Leadership.

Clinical Care:

  • Participates in cardiology consultation. Provides excellent clinical care and in the process, supports safe, efficient and high-quality services
  • Ensures appropriate coordination and integration with other services in the care of their patients.
  • Engages with consultants and other providers in a multi-disciplinary model of care. 

Planning:

  • Works with administrative and clinical leaders to support quality and performance improvement to ensure that program goals are attained.
  • Participates in task forces and committees, as applicable to Service line or Seattle Children’s leadership.

Regulatory:

  • Supports timely review of any patient safety events.
  • Responds in a timely manner to physician or patient related feedback or complaints.
  • Supports legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Participates regularly in physician variability documentation and IAC conferences to maintain lab accreditation.
  • Supports and participates in M&M program and identifies opportunities for improvement
  • Provides input to continuing education activities designed to maintain and enhance competencies
  • Maintains professionalism with regards to billing, documentation, conference attendance and collaboration with peers, trainees, staff, patients and families.

Research:

  • Identifies opportunities and actively participate in scientific investigations and collaborations.
  • Maintains academic productivity commensurate for rank and for the Clinician-Scholar. 

Education:

  • Supports cardiac clinical educational programs for sonographers, medical students, residents, fellows and nursing.
  • Provides advanced clinical and research training for non-invasive cardiac imaging fellow.
  • Participates and contributes to quality improvement projects and/or curriculum development.

 All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research/scholarship and service. Anticipated Start Date - Summer of 2026.
