About the role

Summary: Attorney with housing court or other relevant experience who is admitted to the New York State Bar. The candidate will possess a demonstrable background in public interest work, and a commitment to the mission of Catholic Charities Community Services. The individuals must have strong self-motivation, and excellent interpersonal communication, and organizational skills to lead a team of attorneys, case managers, paralegals, and housing advocates by effectively communicating expectations and goals, while fostering an open environment that facilitates communication. A commitment to producing high-quality work in a timely manner is essential. Familiarity with relevant housing court practice and residential landlord-tenant law is preferred.
Salary: $125,000 - $130,000 annually.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the EPGP program, develop and maintain overall goals and objectives of the program.
  • Stay abreast of the NYS laws related to housing court.
  • Supervise paralegals, program manager and support team to ensure the clients receive the best              legal representation.
  • Coordinate intake and respond to client, community, and staff concerns.
  • Monitor and maintain a high standard of holistic representation and client service.
  • Analyze legal issues, develop legal strategy, and supervise the implementation of legal strategies.
  • Represent clients by maintaining a caseload and co-counseling with staff attorneys.
  • Develop and maintain community support and relationships with community-based organizations and resources, government agencies, elected officials, and the courts.
  • Develop and maintain productive work environment.
  • Conduct community education, training, and outreach to promote the work of the office.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and/or experience required:
 
1. Juris Doctor degree and admission to the NYS Bar.
 
Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required:
  • Juris Doctor with at least 5 years or more of legal and supervisory experience and practice.
  • Member in good standing of the New York Bar.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to public interest or pro bono work.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent litigation ski
