Scope:
Analyzes specifications, proposals, and other documents to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for complex products, projects, and services. Attends meetings with customers to validate the methodology and assumptions used to produce the estimate. Develops complete price proposals for contract manufacturing projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepares estimates of the cost of materials and labor required to manufacture the most complex products as described by internal or external customers.
Reviews requests received from customers to develop estimates for products, sub-assemblies, or piece parts including the bill of materials and the number of units required.
Research various sources to locate existing bills of material and recent pricing of components, requesting updated pricing directly or through the Purchasing department
Develops labor costs by using learning curves and other standard analytical methods and by communicating with appropriate departments to obtain estimates.
Supports estimates during fact-finding and negotiations by attending meetings with customers and/or Government Auditors to validate the methodology and assumptions used to produce the estimate.
Develops complete price proposals for contract manufacturing projects, which involves preparing estimates on the cost of materials and labor, estimating shipping and special handling costs, and adding in profit margins and other factors.
Interfaces with Engineering to obtain all details of preliminary hardware design to identify problems associated with preliminary hardware design that impact the integrity of the labor and/ or material estimates.
Generates rate sheets by applying labor standards against the drawings/ parts lists requirements as defined by Engineering.
Provides technical guidance and assistance to team members.
Participates in the development of new and improved methods and techniques to maintain and improve the integrity of the estimating system.
Plans and holds meetings to ensure proposals are submitted accurately and on time.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Experience using MS Office software, advanced skills in Excel, and experience using ProPricer
Ability to interact with individuals at all levels via written and oral communication to solve problems. Ability to present ideas and proposals in meeting settings with internal or external customers.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply algebraic formulas, compute rate, ratio, percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to develop and interpret costs, develop “should cost” estimates and determine risk factors.
Education and Experience:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting
Experience: 5+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
