Assistant Professor of German Studies

The German, Russian, Italian, and Arabic Department at Hamilton College invites applications for a tenure-track position in German Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2026. We seek candidates to teach German language and cultural studies at all levels as well as offer courses in translation based upon their own areas of interest and expertise. We are particularly interested in candidates whose scholarship and pedagogy extend beyond a traditional focus on German national culture who practice German Studies with an emphasis upon transnational movements, transmissions, and creation of knowledge in any period. We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate their experience in teaching or working with broadly diverse student populations while contributing to a vibrant learning community that values academic freedom, creativity, and intellectual curiosity. Candidates with ABD will be considered, although candidates with a Ph.D. are preferred. The teaching load for this position is four courses during the first year and five courses thereafter. The position requires institutional service including academic advising of undergraduate students after the first year. The expected 9-month base salary range for this position is $92,100 to $97,900.
