About the role
Meta is seeking an experienced Public Affairs Manager supporting its youth campaign.
The position requires a passion for the safety and protection of young people online, and candidates should demonstrate experience building and leading scalable proactive communications programs, with tangible results, working collaboratively with technical teams and policy teams. Excellent media and community relations, crisis communications, communications strategy, and content development skills are crucial.
Candidates must be strong writers and clear thinkers, with an excellent understanding of the youth and wellbeing landscape for technology companies, particularly as it relates to new youth legislation and public policy. Working and staying calm under pressure is a must, as is a deep understanding of our parental and teen communities and their needs. Candidates should excel at project management and problem solving while working collaboratively with executives and other stakeholders. They should also proactively foresee potential issues before they arise and escalate accordingly. Candidates should be creative-first thinkers, with experience in ideation and execution on non-traditional approaches to reach key audiences (parents, media, policymakers), which may include creator content development, in-person and virtual events, and more.

- Lead proactive media programs and campaigns that advocate for simple technical solutions for parents to support their teens online
- Build and manage deep relationships with the media, and engage with press, creators, opinion leaders, and the general public as a spokesperson
- Develop traditional and non-traditional communications strategies that provide parents and guardians with the information they need to support their teens’ online lives
- Develop and write a wide range of communications materials including press plans, pitches, blog posts, reactive statements, and briefing materials, and proactively keep materials updated
- Prepare and train spokespeople, and staff press briefings and speaking events
- Counsel cross-functional partners in product, partnerships, data, community and other groups within the company on communications considerations around consumer initiatives
- Collaborate with external PR agency teams to execute on different initiatives
- Manage and track budget for specific programs
- Develop and track against metrics to measure success of programs and report back to leadership with progress
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent and the experience to apply relevant knowledge from this field to communications
- 8+ years professional experience in communications, marketing or public relations
- Have proven existing media, creator and expert relationships
- Experience working with national, consumer, corporate, tech, and business/marketing media, and developing creative, social campaigns to achieve communications goals
- Effective communications and decision-making skills along with proven project management skills
- Experience working with international teams
- Experience in public policy or in the technology sector
- 10+ years professional experience in communications, marketing or public relations
