Postdoctoral Scholar

Description

We are seeking up to 2 Postdoctoral Scholars within the T. Denny Sanford Harmony Institute at Arizona State University who are eager to contribute to this mission. The Postdoctoral Scholars are expected to, under supervision by mentors, publish and present scholarly papers and contribute to ongoing and new projects of the Institute. Postdoctoral Scholars’ work assignments will be made based on balancing the priorities of the Institute and the skills and interests of the Postdoctoral Scholar. Likely areas of opportunity might include contributing to projects focused on measurement and assessment of children’s relationships, the intersection of peer relationships and academic learning, the development of interventions promoting collaborative relationships, the evaluation of interventions, or other opportunities that arise.

This is a full-time salaried position (40 hours/week) with postdoctoral-level benefits. The postdoctoral fellowship is for a 12-month period, with the option to renew contingent on performance, the needs of the Institute, and funding availability.

 Anticipated start date: As early as January 1, 2026 and as late as July 1, 2026

Essential Duties:

• Contributes to the implementation and evaluation of one or more research and/or intervention projects related to children’s relationships; duties could include assisting with measurement, study design and data collection, intervention development, conducting advanced quantitative statistical analyses, the preparation and dissemination of scholarly papers, presentations, or other reports, grant writing, and related duties  
• Mentors graduate and/or undergraduate students as needed
• Attends relevant team meetings and participates in discussions
• Contributes to a positive work environment
• Establishes good communication with Institute faculty, staff, students, and collaborators
• Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Requirement:

• Applicants must have a recent Ph.D. (within the past five years) or equivalent in Psychology, Human Development and Family Science, Education, or related fields.

Desired Qualifications:

• By time of appointment, successful candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Psychology, Human Development and Family Science, Education, or related field
• Previous experience in the fields of children’s interpersonal relationships, social-emotional developmental models, intervention science, and/or other related research areas
• Evidence of strong and independent writing skills as related to publishing in scholarly journals
• Evidence of expertise in study design, data collection, and advanced quantitative methods.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment
• Preference for skills in measurement development and/or methods needed to test intervention effects
• Preference for experience in conducting research with children 3-10 years of age.
• Preference for expertise in children’s relationships at school and/or with peers
• Previous research experience in the fields of children’s interpersonal relationships, social-emotional developmental models, intervention science, and/or other related research areas
• Proficient in common analytical approaches used in child development research (e.g., longitudinal structural equation modeling, mediation and moderation analysis, multilevel modeling, factor analysis, item response theory) and the use of statistical analysis software, including SPSS, R, and/or MPLUS.
• Strong and independent writing skills as related to publishing in top scholarly journals
• Ability to communicate findings in a clear, accurate and user-friendly manner
• Ability to complete projects with evidence of creative and critical thinking
• Ability to use effective project planning techniques to break down projects into tasks to ensure deadlines are met while managing multiple projects with multiple teams
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team
• Passion for applying your knowledge and experience to address the development of children’s healthy relationships
