About the role

Position Title: Team Leader – Nigeria Peacebuilding (Anticipated)
Project/Team: GIZ PEACECORE II
Location: Remote with travel to Nigeria (Plateau, Kaduna, and Taraba States)
Employment Type: Consultant (Anticipated)
Number of Vacancies: 1
Period of Performance: 120 days total (45 travel days in Nigeria, 75 remote days)

Background:
Navanti is seeking a highly qualified international expert for an anticipated proposal in support of GIZ’s PEACECORE II project: “Strengthening Capacities for Conflict Transformation and Livelihood for Groups in Vulnerable Situations in Nigeria’s Central Zone.” This program operates in Plateau, Kaduna, and Taraba states and focuses on:

  • Strengthening the capacity of government actors to de-escalate conflict
  • Supporting food security and livelihood initiatives
  • Promoting peaceful coexistence through infrastructure and rehabilitation

The proposed effort includes four main workstreams:

  1. Technical assessments, studies, and surveys
  2. Conceptualization and implementation of pilot projects for sustainable livelihoods
  3. Capacity building through training and coaching
  4. Support for infrastructural development for social cohesion

Core Responsibilities:
The Team Leader will supervise a team of experts responsible for delivering the workstreams described above. Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring timely and high-quality completion of deliverables
  • Providing quality control and backstopping support
  • Managing donor communications and stakeholder engagement
  • Coordinating across technical and field teams
  • Drafting reports, terms of reference, and managing output reviews

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

  • University degree in development studies, communication, law, business development, international relations, or a relevant field

Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years in international consulting, preferably focused on sustainable development
  • At least 5 years of experience in backstopping large contracts (quality control, stakeholder negotiations, drafting outputs)
  • 3 years of management and leadership experience
  • Strong technical experience in peacebuilding, conflict transformation, food security, and livelihoods
  • Demonstrated experience supervising multinational teams and managing workshop delivery
  • Specific experience within the context of Nigeria’s Central Zone
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a region other than West Africa
  • At least 3 years of experience in development cooperation projects
  • At least 1 year of work experience in Africa
