Position Overview
The R&D Intern will assist in the development and optimization of NGS-related methodologies within the Product Development group. The position is intended to be a full-time opportunity for an engineering or science undergraduate to obtain hands-on laboratory experience in an industry leading research group while contributing to the overall company goals.
Essential Duties
Include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist with basic laboratory experiments.
- Assist with general laboratory duties.
- Assist with sample preparation.
- Assist with DNA extraction methods.
- Assist in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) methods.
- Assist in NGS library prep methods.
- Assist with other support duties as assigned.
- Run experiments and perform analysis.
- Work with liquid handling robotic instrumentation.
- Attention to detail

Scheduling requirements:
- Ability to work designated schedule.
Physical requirements:
- Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for
- approximately 30% of a typical working day.
- Ability to work on a computer and phone simultaneously.
- Ability to use a telephone through a headset.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds for approximately 10% of a typical working day.
- Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
- Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
- Ability to use various types of laboratory equipment; including microscopes, microtomes, blades, strainers, and pipettes for extended periods of time.
- May perform repetitious actions using lab tools.
- Ability to use near vision to view samples at close range.
- May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Enrollment towards Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in field of Life Sciences.
- Preference giving to candidates with a record of outstanding academic achievement.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.

$40,250.00 - $64,400.00
The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - CA - San Diego on a full-time basis.
