Carpenter II

MR07 – Starting rate dependent on candidate’s qualifications and experiences

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Under general supervision performs general commercial construction work, including layout, repair, renovation, and maintenance of buildings and structures. 

Examples of duties include:

• Construct, repair, and maintain rough frame wood and light steel stud structures, including floors, walls, roofs, stairs, decks, ramps, fences, and gates.

• Execute finish carpentry tasks, including constructing and installing cabinets, counter tops, laminate constructions, interior and exterior trim, and wainscoting.

• Install, repair, and maintain windows and frames, doors and frames, screens, and finish hardware systems.

• Prepare designs and sketches for some design/build carpentry projects.

• Conduct basic masonry repairs, including work on block, brick, pre-cast stone, and tile. Form, pour, and finish concrete sidewalks, pads, and foundations.

• Provide technical assistance, guidance, and training to Carpenter I, II, and Senior I personnel.

• Install drywall, partitions, floor tile, ceiling tile, and shingle and metal roof systems.

• Taking measurements and calculating the size and amount of material needed.

• Material handling; loading & unloading, delivering, transporting.

Minimum/Required Qualifications (include education, experience, skills and abilities, licenses and certifications):

• Valid Tennessee Driver’s License

• High School Education; Nine (9) years of experience or trade school and experience. (Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis)

• Applicant must have knowledge of safe work practices and able to perform moderately strenuous work activities.

• Applicant should have the ability to read blueprints and shop drawings.
