Staff Scientist

Summary

Seeking a Staff Scientist with expertise in vector biology, functional genomics, and pathogenesis of tick-borne pathogens. This role involves working with argadid and ixodid ticks. Additionally, will implement molecular techniques to study transcriptional responses of ticks and tick-borne pathogens.

Job Duties

• Plans, directs and conducts research experiments.
• Evaluates and analyzes data.
• Develops research techniques and performs applications required for specific research projects.
• May conduct literature searches and summarize information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
• Documents results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
• May supervise, schedule and coordinate the activities of less experienced research staff.
• Designs and executes experiments.
• Aids in planning projects and grant proposals.
• Helps rear and maintain tick colonies through natural and artificial feeding techniques.
• Develops molecular techniques including RNAi and CRISPR to study tick biology.
• Perform RNAseq analyses on ticks.
• Interprets and reports findings of transcriptional responses in ticks.
• Develops molecular assays to study bacterial pathogens and their tick vectors.
• Conceptualizes and supports writing grant proposals for ixodid ticks.
• Conceptualizes and supports grant applications around tick ecology and vector biology.
• Helps organize and write project reports on currently funded projects.

Minimum Qualifications

• Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
• Three years of post doctoral research experience.
