About the role
Summary
Seeking a Staff Scientist with expertise in vector biology, functional genomics, and pathogenesis of tick-borne pathogens. This role involves working with argadid and ixodid ticks. Additionally, will implement molecular techniques to study transcriptional responses of ticks and tick-borne pathogens.
Job Duties
- Plans, directs and conducts research experiments.
- Evaluates and analyzes data.
- Develops research techniques and performs applications required for specific research projects.
- May conduct literature searches and summarize information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
- Documents results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
- May supervise, schedule and coordinate the activities of less experienced research staff.
- Designs and executes experiments.
- Aids in planning projects and grant proposals.
- Helps rear and maintain tick colonies through natural and artificial feeding techniques.
- Develops molecular techniques including RNAi and CRISPR to study tick biology.
- Perform RNAseq analyses on ticks.
- Interprets and reports findings of transcriptional responses in ticks.
- Develops molecular assays to study bacterial pathogens and their tick vectors.
- Conceptualizes and supports writing grant proposals for ixodid ticks.
- Conceptualizes and supports grant applications around tick ecology and vector biology.
- Helps organize and write project reports on currently funded projects.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
- Three years of post doctoral research experience.
