Position Overview
The principal purpose of this position is to provide technical safety support and leadership to Novelis for all matters related to occupational safety. This is accomplished through leading, directing, planning, organizing, and coordinating the organization's management of occupational safety.
The manager will support the implementation of strategic EHS programs and practices globally and regionally. This role will help the VP of Global EHS develop and implement EHS strategy, policy, and procedures in line with regulations and corporate guidelines, as well as support leadership in achieving sustainable, outstanding EHS performance.
Internally, the position requires the manager to maintain close working relationships with the regional and plant teams. Externally, the manager maintains a strong external relationship with the various task groups within the regional aluminum associations and the International Aluminum Institute. The incumbent represents Novelis’ position and interests within all relevant international government and non-government organizations. The incumbent works with safety leadership of other companies as a result of professional networking, due diligence efforts, benchmarking exercises, etc.
The incumbent must have at least 10 years of combined experience balanced in the occupational health and safety fields. This position requires knowledge and skill in the areas of machine guarding, lock out tag out, mobile equipment and pedestrian safety, fall protection, electrical safety, fall protection, cranes & lifting, OHSA's 18000, regulatory audits; governmental &/or state certification (Manufacturing Sector); project management, supervision and training prescribed by additional Programs within which the position has a number of defined roles and responsibilities.
Due to the many diverse hazards associated with manufacturing processes, knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk control is important.
The incumbent will also possess project management and excellent supervision and communication skills.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Responsibilities:
- Global Program Manager of the Global Safety Absolutes Program providing global governance and technical support on Safety Absolutes related topics across the company.
- Develop/update/deliver training and materials for Operational Risk Management, including but not limited to Risk Assessments, Safety Absolutes, Incident investigation, new procedures, and behavioral training to frontline employees, plant managers and EHS personnel.
- Act as the Master Trainer in safety related topics.
- Act as Subject Matter Authority in safety related topics & committees.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to frontline employees and plant EHS team members on safety topics.
- Provide advice and council to plants in hazard recognition and mitigation.
- Participate in incident investigations and review investigation reports to ensure that corrective actions will eliminate recurrence and at-risk behaviors and conditions.
- Analyzing and interpreting EHS statistics and accident information.
- Routinely visiting plants within the regions to supervise policies, practices, and conditions.
- Conduct advocacy visits at Novelis sites to improve performance and culture.
- Participation as an EHS auditor.
- Participation at regional EHS networking meetings.
- Supervise adoption of Novelis Shared Practices or key findings from Novelis EHS Community.
- Communicate requirements to sites and supervise implementation.
- Recommend required corrective actions and follow-up action plans.
- Participate in safety conferences and trade associations.
- Active participation in the Novelis EHS Council as needed.
- Routinely visiting plants within the regions to supervise policies, practices, and conditions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an EHS program or related field
- At least 10-15 years of confirmed experience in a dynamic and multi-disciplinary environment
