The Department of Radiology at the University of Washington is recruiting for one full-time (100% FTE) faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor without tenure (WOT) by reason of funding, to serve as the Director of the UW Radiology Radiochemistry Program with an anticipated, but flexible, start date of July 1, 2025.  Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).  Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The mission of the UW Radiology Radiochemistry Program is to develop and provide novel molecular imaging tools to the entire University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center scientific community to advance research across multiple disease domains, including both preclinical and clinical research efforts.

UW Radiology Radiochemistry Program comprises a small team of chemists who support all aspects of radiolabeling synthesis for preclinical experiments and investigational radiopharmaceutical production for clinical trials. The program supports a broad range of research projects needing imaging. The program occupies 4500 NSF of laboratory space that includes an 11 MeV cyclotron, a cleanroom and hot cells, boxes for automated synthesis, and its own machine shop. The lab is well-equipped with analytical instrumentation for quality testing. It is a PET Manufacturing Facility licensed through the State of Washington and is staffed by two radiochemists, an analytical chemist and a part-time cyclotron engineer. The program supports collaborations across the entire UW consortium including investigators at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and the VA Puget Sound. There is also close collaboration and physical proximity with a radiochemistry program in the Department of Radiation Oncology, who operated a 50 MeV multi-particle cyclotron with targets for isotope production.

We are looking to expand the depth and scope of the UW Radiology Radiochemistry Program. This position will use strong operational and organizational skills to ensure ongoing reliable, robust support to existing funded projects that require PET radiopharmaceuticals. They will navigate regulatory requirements for the production of radiopharmaceuticals for human use to help develop an internationally recognized research program in Molecular Imaging and Theranostics, including radionuclide production and radiopharmaceutical development. The candidate will also be expected to participate in the teaching and service missions of the department and follow UW’s strong tradition of collaboration across disciplinary boundaries. The candidate will have an opportunity to gain experience with pre-clinical and/or clinical imaging research studies and work in a highly collaborative environment with other scientists and physicians to develop new radiopharmaceuticals.  Positive factors for this position include, but are not limited to: Knowledge and expertise with cyclotron operations; expertise with GMP, IND, RDRC, and RDA requirements and nuclear pharmacy requirements; a track record of grant funding; and evidence of originality and productivity in research.

The base salary range for this position will be: $8,750 - $12,500 per month ($105,000 - $150,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.  This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University.  Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations.  Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.  This position is incentive eligible through the physicians practice plan.
