The Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) Sr. Associate will support world class EHSS performance across the site in a diverse biotech/pharma environment. The role will be responsible for the execution of key EHSS processes including:

  • Program ownership for site industrial safety and other EHS programs.

  • Manage EHS training schedule and conduct instructor led trainings for new hires and contractors.

  • Support assigned business functions in all areas of EHS including Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) program compliance, inspections, incident investigations and management of change.

  • Report and manage key safety metrics for site and global management.

Summary of responsibilities:

  • Actively contribute to a work culture where staff feel physically and psychologically safe and where diversity, inclusion and belonging is a top priority.

  • Provide Subject Matter expertise and specialist support in assigned areas and programs. These may include:

  • Biosafety, Lock out Tag Out, Hot Work, Change Control, Incident Investigations, and any other defined Programs as necessary

  • Carry out risk assessments and ensure continuous improvement and corrective actions are effectively implemented.

  • Ensure site training matrix is maintained and instructor led trainings are offered appropriately.

  • Support the assigned business partner function(s) as required, and be purposefully present and available in the workplace for significant periods of time (including safety walkthroughs with leadership, inspections, incident investigations, pre start-up safety reviews etc.).

  • Perform EHS assessments for management of changes.

  • Ensure corrective actions are identified and implemented in a timely way in conjunction with area management.

  • Co-ordinate, support and facilitate appropriate safety and functional meetings as required.

  • Ensure that Amgen maintains compliance with legislative and corporate requirements and that appropriate Programs are compliant and updated to meet new legislative requirements.

  • Where necessary, provide back-up and assist in the implementation of any other EHS related tasks/projects or Programs as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

Master’s degree OR

Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of EH&S experience OR

Associate’s degree and 6 years of EH&S experience OR

High school diploma / GED and 8 years of EH&S experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Occupational Safety/Health, Environmental Health or relevant Engineering qualification.

  • 3 years in related industry or equivalent role

  • 2+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry implementing industrial programs

  • Strong understanding of OSHA industrial safety programs

  • RCRA and DOT training

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, action oriented, self-starting, program development and project management

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Smartsheets, and other computer software systems
