Senior Industrial Hygienist
The Senior Industrial Hygienist will provide support to multiple worker operations and work in unison with other safety departments to identify, recognize, evaluate and control workplace exposures. The senior industrial hygienist will provide leadership and participate with all levels of TerraPower to develop and implement appropriate policies and practices while continually evaluating established procedures for compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. The senior industrial hygienist will require working knowledge of hazardous waste, ergonomics, biological, chemicals, non-ionizing radiation, ionizing radiation, ventilation, thermal stress, and noise. Responsibilities include development/oversite of writing exposure assessments, sampling, managing hazardous cleanup, conducting periodic inspections, overseeing confined space entry, maintaining chemical inventory, managing hazardous waste, and providing safety review of documents and plans.
This position reports to the Senior EHS Manager.
Responsibilities
• Serve as the subject matter expert for chemical safety and industrial hygiene, overseeing compliance with relevant regulations.
• Lead the continuous development and execution of industrial hygiene programs.
• Write scientifically and legally defensible exposure assessments to mitigate workplace hazards of new and existing projects.
• Direct, create, and deliver company-wide safety training programs related to chemical handling, hazardous materials, and industrial hygiene.
• Create, review, and implement policies, handbooks, and procedures to support EHS general needs.
• Provide industrial hygiene review of documents and work plans.
• Prepare and execute sampling plans which include equipment selection, calibration, laboratory analysis, data interpretation
• Manage the hazardous waste program and regulatory reporting.
• Oversee the procurement, safe handling, and disposal of all chemicals and hazardous materials. Establish procedures for inventory and SDS management, auditing, and reporting.
• Ensure operation and maintenance of testing instruments.
• Manage oversite of IH monitoring programs (Hearing, Respiratory, Laser, etc.).
• Develop and provide safety training to increase knowledge of industrial hygiene.
• Provide oversite to hazardous waste cleanup and spill response.
• Support incident investigations and corrective action plans related to industrial hygiene hazards
• Represent IH for start-up councils for individual projects
• Conduct safety walkthroughs and support developing action plans to resolve findings
