About the Role 

Nature Reviews has a locum vacancy for a full time Cross-Journal Associate or Senior Editor with expertise in the clinical and/or life sciences. As Springer Nature is committed to our diversity, equity and inclusion strategy, we welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds. 

The Reviews Cross-Journal Editorial Team manages all aspects of content handling in support of the physical sciences, clinical sciences and life sciences Nature Reviews journal teams The team also produces and coordinates the Research Briefing articles (short, accessible summaries of original research papers) across the Nature Research Journals, as well as supporting all Nature Portfolio journals. 

The successful candidate will report to one of the Reviews Cross-Journal Editorial Team Managers.

This role can be in our New York or Heidelberg offices on a hybrid working model.  

Role Responsibilities:  

• Involves being part of a large team of Cross-Journal Editors   
• Working closely and flexibly with the Nature Reviews journal teams 
• Editing commissioned content 
• Peer-review coordination 
• Writing Research Highlights and other editorial content 
• Working with the team to deliver Research Briefing articles across the Nature Research Journals 
• Collaborating with authors, production, editors, and other departments across the Nature Reviews and Nature Research journals 

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:  

• Higher (graduate) degree, preferably to PhD level and, ideally, research experience relevant to one or more of the life and/or clinical Nature Reviews journals 
• Previous editorial experience is an advantage but not essential. 
• A passion for science and a thirst to learn more. You must be able to demonstrate the breadth of your interest in scientific research, both within and beyond your speciality. 
• Excellent time management and prioritization skills, and ability to balance deadlines.  
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
