Summary

Network Administrator 
The Department of Administration's Office of Technology & Information Services (OTIS) is seeking a Network Administrator to join the team. OTIS oversees the state’s federated model for implementing, enhancing, and protecting information technology (IT) resources and the utilization of IT shared services across agencies. In this role you will ensure basic and advanced technical solutions are provided to customers and users technology designs, installations, modifications, and troubleshooting requests while adhering to agency and state policies.   This position is onsite in Columbia, SC.


Responsibilities of the Network Administrator:
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot network devices and their operating systems to ensure quality IT services are delivered to state and local governments. Document all changes to the LAN/MAN/WAN using spreadsheets and Visio so other team members will have an up-to-date picture of the network.
  • Monitor network performance and utilization with available tools to ensure that the network remains healthy and fully functional. Utilize test environments to evaluate and test new network configurations or hardware so that the network can be improved with no adverse impact to customers.
  • Maintain and utilize troubleshooting and monitoring, the services, applications and operating systems, SolarWinds, syslogs, ISE and wireless control systems that support network activities.
  • Participate in available training as offered, including vendor updates, webinars or online tutorials.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Examples of duties

  • A bachelor's degree related to Information Technology. Relevant experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a
    year-for-year basis.
  • At least two (2) years of relevant experience working in a large, complex network environment.

Additional Requirements:
  • Knowledge of LAN, WAN and MAN; data transport such as MPLS and Metro Ethernet; routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF, TCP/IP; VLANs; 802.1q trunking, VoIP design and support; wireless networking; network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds; network access control (NAC); security standards such as those published by NIST; and compliance requirements such as PCI and HIPAA. 
  • Skilled in working on large, complex networks with routers/switches/encryption devices, managing multiple connections to service providers, and managing multiple projects at the same time. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively utilizing both verbal and written methods and work multiple tasks with competing priorities. 
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain compliance certifications and trainings as required.
  • Position will be required to report to work evenings and weekends.
  • Position will be requiring overnight travel.
  • Position will be requiring routine driver duties.
  • Position will be required on-call shifts and call back.
  • Position requires frequent stooping and/or bending.
  • Position requires frequent lifting: 50lbs.
  • Position will be required to report to work during emergency and hazardous weather events.
  • Must have a valid class D driver's license. Must maintain an up-to-date Defensive Driving Certificate. 
  • Position may require work beyond the 37.5-hour work week. 
  • Must carry a mobile communications device if provided. 
  • Must be able to climb or crawl into network locations.
