Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
Develop and execute a strategic vision for the Flow Cytometry Core in alignment with institutional goals.
Evaluate emerging technologies and implement new capabilities to meet evolving research needs.
Serve as the primary scientific and administrative leader of the facility, reporting regularly to institutional leadership.
Scientific & Technical Oversight
Provide expert consultation to investigators on experimental design, panel development, sample preparation, and data analysis.
Supervise and train staff in advanced flow cytometry and cell sorting techniques.
Maintain and troubleshoot complex instruments, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
Evaluate and introduce new methodologies, workflows, and analysis tools.
Operations & Management
Oversee scheduling, billing, and utilization tracking for instrumentation and services.
Develop and implement SOPs to ensure consistency, quality, and reproducibility of results.
Manage facility budget, including forecasting, cost recovery models, and external recharge mechanisms.
Ensure compliance with biosafety, animal care, and institutional policies regarding core use.
Collaboration & Outreach
Build strong relationships with internal and external investigators to expand the user base.
Organize seminars, workshops, and training sessions to educate and engage users.
Collaborate with other core facilities to enable integrated research approaches.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure adherence to institutional, state, and federal regulations, including biosafety and data integrity standards.
Maintain appropriate documentation for quality assurance, audits, and inspections.
Qualifications
Education
PhD in Immunology, Cell Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or related field strongly preferred
Experience
Minimum 5–10 years of hands-on experience in flow cytometry and advanced cell sorting.
At least 2–5 years of leadership or core facility management experience.
Proven track record in staff supervision, training, and mentorship.
Demonstrated success in developing new technologies, services, or programs within a research environment.
Skills & Competencies
Deep expertise in multicolor flow cytometry, high-parameter analysis, and data interpretation.
Strong organizational, budgetary, and project management skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, trainees, staff, and institutional leadership.
Collaborative mindset with the ability to foster partnerships across departments.
Required Education and Experience
PhD or M.D. in Molecular or Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, or other closely related field. Minimum of four (4) years experience in required field of specialization. Prior experience with laboratory management or other relevant research field.

Preferred
Prior teaching experience. Experience with all routine cellular and molecular experimental procedures. Experience with molecular biology techniques (Northern, Western, Southern, PCR and InSitu Hybridization techniques). Experience with statistics and relevant computer programs. Experience writing and editing manuscripts.
Compensation Range
$104,797.00 - $157,195.00 per yearSalary Information
This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
