Job Description
Position Summary
Position will be a key member of management team for VGL’s Brokerage business, leading and executing our freight sourcing and pricing strategies, and contributing to the overall goal of ongoing, profitable growth of the business. Position will interact with internal customer account managers, sales, brokerage operations and senior management. This is an onsite position.
Qualifications

- Responsibility for the VGL Brokerage business’ customer pricing strategies for both spot and contractual business opportunities
- Coordinate with operations and sales management to ensure timely and accurate development of pricing proposals in line with company growth objectives and the day-to-day needs of the business
- Lead continuous improvement of all pricing procedures and methodologies to ensure proactive, ongoing alignment with the evolving dynamics in the motor freight marketplace
- Work in close coordination with the Brokerage Operations team, establish and maintain long-lasting, sustainable relationships with VGL’s carrier partners to better align company goals, customers’ goals, and the carriers’ goals in order to provide the best options for VGL shippers
- Identify and execute specific strategies within the VGL carrier partner base to enable enhanced pricing and/or cost reductions in order to maximize VGL gross margins
- Maintain/enhance existing master sourcing database of current, new and potential carriers, their service areas, equipment deployed, rates and service types for use by authorized personnel
- Analyze and provide recurring reporting to senior management on data from business intelligence reports, purchasing data, supplier information and other key sources, and based on this analysis, provide specific, actionable recommendations to improve pricing, costing and related processes
- Supervise and develop existing analyst team, and as need be, attract, hire, and cultivate additional talent to build a high-performance culture
Required Experience
- Minimum 5 years of work experience in a similar freight pricing or sourcing role, with a prior responsibility for generating and managing business intelligence data
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a senior level or lead role
- High degree of proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Project, and PowerPoint), web-based, and Windows based software
- Exposure to carrier price structure, contracts, and performance metrics required
- Multi-Modal Transportation experience encompassing parcel, LTL, ocean and truckload modes, with particular emphasis on a deep understanding domestic OTR transportation markets
- Must be able to prepare accurate summaries and analysis in short time frames, and/or under pressure
- Excellent negotiation skills and experience with dedicated fleet & capacity negotiations
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of transportation sourcing methods, procurement tools and pricing strategies, with prior experience working in a brokerage business model strongly preferred
- Highly effective interpersonal and technical skills, including presenting, advising and consulting executive management, and the ability to work effectively with all levels of employees, customers, operations, locations and diverse cultures
