Cleveland Clinic’s Department of Surgical Critical Care Respiratory Therapists are team-oriented with a practice model that embodies boundary-less collaboration between services. RRTs are given the unique opportunity to work in exclusive world-renowned critical care and stepdown settings, use state-of-the-art equipment, use advanced clinical techniques, participate in research and utilize patient-driven protocols.
RRTs in the Department of Surgical Critical Care pride themselves on teamwork because they work closely with nurses and physicians to function as a critical care team and provide the best care for their patients.
A caregiver in this position works nights, 7:00PM – 7:30AM, with rotating weekends and holiday requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide assessment, treatment, care and evaluation to patients with respiratory insufficiencies.
Implement and monitor patient care plans.
Assess patients for the appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop, implement and monitor patient care plans.
Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.
Perform advanced respiratory care modalities, evaluate respiratory practice, administer medications and treatments, and perform blood gas puncture and analysis.
Educate patients and families about the illness and provide information about community support groups and other programs.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Associate's Degree and graduate of a CoARC accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
Ohio Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) Board Licensure
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Prior experience in critical care.
Bachelor’s degree
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal R
