The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's Division of Environmental Health works to prevent and control illness and injury related to environmental and occupational health risks through outreach, education, surveillance, and enforcement. With staff of 1,000, the Division covers a broad range of subject matter, including oversight of environmental investigations, lead poisoning, injury prevention, occupational health, food safety, childcare, radiation control, recreational and drinking water quality, air quality, climate health, vector control, veterinary public health and pest control.

The Health Academy provides training for members of the public as mandated by the Health Code and for Environmental Health Personnel in the areas of environmental science. Courses offered include the Food Protection Course for Food Service Establishments in classroom in four different languages and on-line in three languages. Other Food Safety Courses include Food Safety for Mobile Vendors and Soup Kitchen Operators. In addition, the Health Academy conducts an Infection Control Course for Tattoo Artists and an Animal Handling Technique for Pet Shop Operators. Courses are held both during the daytime and in the evenings. The Associate Public Health Sanitarian II will function as s senior instructor, reporting directly to the Assistant Director of the Health Academy. They supervise instructors and educate the public through a series of engaging courses focused on food service establishments.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
Manage a team of four instructors, overseeing their performance, training, and professional development. Train and mentor Health Academy instructors, including new hires, ensuring high-quality instructional delivery. Conduct need assessment for each instructor to provide or recommend additional training.
Teach Food Protection, Infection Control, Mobile Food Vending and Soup Kitchen Courses to operators of various establishments.
Assist, update, and maintain training curricula, educational materials, and final exams.
Proctor final exams for online courses and external approved providers and ensure compliance with training standards.
Maintain permanent records of classes taught and oversee the 10-year record retention process.
Promote public health awareness through collaborations with internal and external partners.
Ensure accessibility of multilingual educational materials for all students.
Conduct annual evaluations of instructors and discuss findings with actionable recommendations.
