Job Description

The Smart Healthcare Hub is a newly established strategic initiative of Virginia Tech and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, with the mission to explore and improve the integration of technological systems and humans in healthcare. Our goal is to drive positive change through pioneering research, innovative programs, and cutting-edge analytic tools to revolutionize healthcare delivery. We invite applications for an open rank faculty position in Healthcare Operations and Business Analytics, a strategic position to strengthen interdisciplinary research and teaching at the interface of data science, operations research, and health technology. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of the position and opportunities for immediate leadership and cross-college opportunities, preference will be given to those with an established track record in publishing high-quality research and securing external funding.

Required Qualifications

A PhD and or PhD equivalent degree and expertise in clinical informatics, information systems/information technology, industrial engineering, operations research, computer science, or a related field.
The candidate must have a demonstrated track record of publications in recognized, leading journals, supported by experience developing and applying advanced analytical methods.
A track record of extramural funding from federal sources or other sources, and knowledge of healthcare systems, electronic health records, and healthcare data standards are highly desirable.
Background of strong expertise in mathematical modelling, optimization, machine learning, AI, LLM, and data-driven decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications

Have expertise across a multitude of domains (e.g., clinical informatics, human factors, healthcare business intelligence, systems process engineering, etc.).
