Job Description

The RFID Design Engineer designs UHF and HF/NFC passive inlays for global item-level tagging applications including but not limited to apparel, supply chain, healthcare, automotive, and food markets.

This role partners with product line management to translate market performance requirements into detailed antenna design specifications and collaborate to make sure designs will meet customer needs. This position will design and create antenna concepts, conduct detailed performance measurements, and release antenna layouts to product development.

The RFID Design Engineer will also support sales and marketing with building prototypes and sampling for direct customer feedback. This role will work closely with platform engineering and supply chain to monitor the release of new designs entering manufacturing and provide expert RF technical knowledge.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Accountable for translating market requirements into antenna design specifications.

  • Responsible for the design, test, and evaluation of design arrays for release to product development.

  • Conduct rigorous scientific measurements using RF equipment and various in-house test systems for characterizing the RF performance of UHF and HF/NFC inlays.

  • Generate performance summary outputs of design arrays and participate in design reviews.

  • Conduct research on various technologies as directed by Technical Director.

  • Build quick-turn prototypes to support business development activities.

  • Evaluate and be able to recommend new ways of testing to automate data collection and expand technical capabilities to meet the growing market demand.

  • Partner with platform engineering to support the introduction of new designs and manufacturing scale-up.

Qualifications

 

  • Relevant masters degree or higher with experience in RF systems and design

  • Practical antenna design experience, in particular, the 860-960 MHz frequency band is a plus

  • Familiarity with Phase-Gate process is a plus

  • Preferably experience with predictive modeling of antenna behavior using software such as HFSS

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct measurements using RF equipment (Network and Spectrum Analyzers) as well as interpretation of the results

  • Experience with general analogue and digital electronics with some programming experience

  • Experience with engineering drawing packages such as AutoCAD preferred.

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to communicate clearly with cross-functional teams

  • Comfortable working independently or as part of a project team with diverse cultures across multiple geographic locations

  • Experience with RFID design is a plus

  • Propensity for identifying issues proactively, making decisions with incomplete information, and acting expediently
