The Office of the Visitors Center at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, (UTK) invites applications and nominations for our Director of Visits & Events position. The target starting salary for this position is $95,000 - $103,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

The Position: 

This is an on-campus position with some hybrid/remote work schedule flexibility. 

While upholding the integrity of the University and the Volunteer creed, this role provides strategic and visionary leadership to a team by motivating top performance, encouraging creativity, reinforcing organizational and institutional vision as the Visitors Center team contributes to broader Divisional and University goals. This position is responsible for developing, executing and assessing a comprehensive recruitment strategy for the campus visitors programs and all recruitment events, resulting in a transformative Volunteer Experience. Under the leadership and guidance of the Assistant Vice Provost for Student Services & Experience, this position will also work in partnership with the Associate Vice Provost and Executive Director of Admissions in determining the goals, objectives, and activities of all recruiting events. The Director will be responsible for the development and management of an evaluative structure that provides assessment and continuous monitoring of effectiveness along with standard and routine reporting which outlines not only the assessment and effectiveness but provides routine recommendations for continuous improvement. This role will provide leadership, training, mentorship, and direction to Visitors Center staff and will have direct supervision of the Associate Director for Vol Corps, Associate Director for Events & Pre College Programs, and the Assistant Director for Guest Relations. The position serves as the key liaison for the Visitors Center and events with all academic and administrative offices to assist in the recruitment of students and will also be responsible for the development of key community partnerships focused on enhancing the UTK campus visit experience.

Position Qualifications 

Required Education and Experience: 

Bachelor's Degree

• 2 years minimum of supervisory experience of professional staff.

• 6-8 years of professional experience in recruitment, student services, hospitality management, or closely related field with demonstrated outcomes contributing the small and large scale events.

 

Preferred Education and Experience: 

Master's Degree

• 2-3 years of responsibilities and experience in the higher education campus visit experience environment.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

• Demonstrated skills in serving customers and guests through the creation of transformational experiences.

• Ability to motivate top performance, encourage creativity, reinforce organizational and institutional vision as team contributes to broad department and university goals. 

• Ability to develop and lead strategic planning and execution efforts.

• Excellent attention to detail and ability to plan ahead. 

• High level of interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations. 

• Excellent program management skills. 

• Creative thinker, and ability to solve complex problems.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

• Demonstrated experience and excellence in the Communications and/or Hospitality Management environment

• Ability to travel in and out of state for recruitment events. 

• Experience with working on large and small recruitment events. 

• Excellence in written and verbal communication skills.
