About you and this role - What you will do in this role

Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Technician - Millwright to support Zone 2 in Plaquemine, Louisiana.  The Maintenance Technician - Millwright provides maintenance craft-specific support to plants. Maintains and repairs all types of equipment with craft knowledge and expertise. Requires broadened technical skills in analytical/scientific methods or operational processes to perform a defined array of activities. May act as an informal resource for team members with less experience.

Responsibilities - Duties, projects, tasks, and activities you would be responsible for in this role

  • Diagnoses and corrects equipment problems.
  • Calibrates and aligns equipment.
  • Completes preventative maintenance activities.
  • Checks sizing of components and parts.
  • Specifies, requisitions, and installs parts and equipment.
  • Coordinates maintenance spare parts.
  • Assists in planning, prioritizing, and scheduling maintenance through planner, work coordinator and operations input.
  • Repairs, maintains, and installs equipment and machinery which is used in the process.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctions and documents failure analysis.
  • Collects equipment operation and history data to facilitate reliability improvements.
  • Works within established Maintenance Work Processes and helps resolve issues that surface as a result of planning and scheduling work.
  • Works to repair a variety of processes and rotating equipment used in industrial processing. The mechanical equipment may include ANSI pumps, various types of compressors, blowers, fans, gearboxes, turbines and generators.
  • This job requires hands-on fieldwork to determine the cause of equipment failure, locate spare parts, and install spare parts using repair procedures and machinist techniques for alignment.
  • Utilize functional, and technical knowledge, company standards, and educational background or experience to analyze and solve problems.
  • Effectively working and maintaining relationships with the Natural Work Teams and key stakeholders with diverse perspectives and backgrounds is essential including Engineers, Operations personnel, and co-workers to identify and resolve technical issues.

Qualifications - Required education, experience and abilities that are needed for this role (must haves)

  • A minimum of a High School diploma or GED and one of the following:
    • 2 year degree in a mechanical type craft.
    • NCCER certified as a Millwright (NCCER Certification obtained through an Instructor Led Training Program is a preference).
    • 3 or more years of relevant military experience. 
    • 3 or more years of experience in an industrial environment as a Millwright/Mechanic. 
  • Willing and able to work a day job utilizing an alternative work schedule (4 ten hour days -- Monday to Thursday).
  • Willing and able to work overtime and call-outs when required after-hours (nights, weekends and holidays), depending on work to be done.
  • Willing and able to interact with all levels of employees, disciplines, and functions in daily activities.
  • Current, valid US driver's license.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications - An expanded list of qualifications that are "nice to have", but not essential

  • Familiarity with Optic and/or Laser alignment techniques.
  • Familiarity with Turbines, Compressors, Generators, Fans
