About the role

Catholic Campus Ministry at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County is a Christ-led community that joyfully welcomes, evangelizes, and serves the University community to form lifelong relationships with Jesus Christ and His Church as witnesses of God’s love. The Catholic Campus Ministry serves the students, faculty, and administration of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Overall, the role of the UMBC Campus Ministry Assistant is - along with the Chaplain and Campus Minister - to be a presence to students in such a way that builds relationships and ultimately leads them to an encounter with Jesus Christ through the Catholic Church.  *Please note that this position is active through June 30, 2026.  

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with the Campus Minister, Chaplain, and respective student leaders to support the work of the Catholic Campus Ministry.
  • Support evangelization efforts on campus, including outreach efforts and collaboration with other organizations on campus.
  • Aid in the organization and growth of men’s and women’s ministries.
  • Mentor bible study leaders to grow in leadership and their spiritual life.
  • Coordinate Sunday Suppers by organizing groups of volunteers/students, scheduling and communicating with donors, and taking weekly inventory of supplies.
  • Assist with Liturgical Ministry planning and formation.
  • Assist in the development of donor relations and assist with fundraising efforts during development initiatives.
  • Attend and support as needed retreats, mission trips, and pilgrimages.
  • Coordinate outreach efforts to new students by facilitating connections between new students and students involved in the ministry.
  • Attend and support summer events as needed.
  • Work closely with the University of Maryland, Baltimore County Chaplain, Coordinator of Campus Ministry, student leadership, and volunteers.
  • Building relationships with current students, staff, faculty, and alumni of UMBC’s Catholic community.
  • Participate in recommended training and workshops under the leadership of the Office of Family, Youth, and Young Adult Ministry.

Qualifications:

  • Fully initiated and practicing Catholic with a strong working knowledge of and enthusiasm for the Catholic faith.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in Theology, Religious Studies, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in a leadership role in Campus Ministry or Young Adult Ministry in a college or parish setting.
  • Ability and desire to reach out to students and young adults to invite them to a personal encounter with Christ and to walk with them on their faith journey.
  • Excellent organizational & collaboration skills, detail-oriented, able to handle flexible situations, and able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Good working knowledge of technology, MS Office software, Google applications, and sports management software
  • Intercultural competency

Range:  $20.00, Hourly
