Someone who has a passion for coding, social justice, and community to join our team and dedicate their skills towards uplifting Bay Area high school students by bridging the tech divide. As a TA, you will be connecting with students to provide an engaging and welcoming classroom environment!
Details
- As a TA with us, you’ll be responsible for promoting a welcoming and supportive class community, fostering productive collaboration, tracking student progress, and helping students realize their potential.
- Highly visible, student-facing role on the Instruction team, reporting directly to the Innovative Learning Coordinator.
- You must be comfortable suggesting and implementing new ideas that improve the quality and integrity of Mission Bit and our curriculum. You understand that there are always new opportunities for improvement and ways to elevate our standards.

Schedule
Instructor Training
- September 5 - 8
Class Dates
- Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM
- September 11, 2023 - December 8, 2023
Weekly Meetings
- 1 hour a week to meet with the instructional team (virtual)
- 15 minutes/week to meet with your supervisor
Monthly Meetings:
- 30 minutes/month to meet with the education and curriculum team

- 5-7 hours per week
Location
- In-person at The MADE in Oakland
Responsibilities:
- Create an inclusive and community-based classroom culture surrounding the Mission Bit core values of social justice, community, accountability, smart risks, and love
- Facilitate community-building games and activities
- Support students on their projects in class
- Foster individual and meaningful relationships with students
- Promote positive, productive collaboration between students
- Communicate and collaborate with Lead Instructor and other instructional staff
- Communicate student progress and success throughout the course to the Program Staff so we can collectively support students learning
- Ensure students receive the support they need throughout the course to effectively and confidently showcase a capstone project at our Demo Day
Requirements
- Ability to demonstrate skills in the course subject (i.e. Python, HTML & CSS, or Unity)
- Punctual, organized, and prepared
- Values aligned with Mission Bit and passion for supporting youth
- Experience working with youth is strongly preferred but not required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable and compelling in public speaking situations
- Experience working with a diverse group of individuals
- Self-starting with the ability to effectively work autonomously with little oversight
- Communicative, dedicated, flexible with a willingness to experiment

$22.00 / hour
