Job Summary:  

Under the supervision and direction of the Aquatics Director/Associate AD, Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring adherence to safety rules, preventing accidents, and the safety and rescue of patrons in and around the aquatics area. They will also be responsible for setting up for pool programs, assisting with those programs and cleaning and stowing materials and equipment.

About the Cal Poly Maritime Academy:

Cal Poly Maritime Academy is a campus of the California State University and is the only degree-granting maritime academy on the West Coast. Located on the scenic Vallejo waterfront, the campus serves a student population of approximately 1000 undergraduates and 50 graduate students.

Cal Poly Maritime Academy offers seven baccalaureate degrees in Business Administration, International Strategy and Security, Facilities Engineering Technology, Marine Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering,  Marine Transportation, and Oceanography. The undergraduate curriculum includes licensing programs for future merchant marine, coast guard, and naval reserve officers. Cal Maritime also offers a Master of Science in Transportation and Engineering Management degree, as well as a number of extended learning programs and courses.

Job Duties: 

Lifeguard 

• Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility. 

• Act immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency. 

• Perform various maintenance and cleaning duties as needed to maintain a clean, healthy and safe facility. 

• Follow the emergency action plan and procedures established in the event of an emergency.

Required Qualifications: 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Lifeguard 

• Must be at least 15 years of age. 

• Must be able to swim 300 yards non-stop, freestyle or breaststroke. 

• Must be able to tread water (legs only) for 2 minutes.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experience lifeguarding
