Senior Engineer - Audio - (Tri-State Area)

Penguin Random House Audio, part of the Digital Publishing Group, is seeking a highly motivated Senior Audio Engineer to join its Post-Production & Engineering team. The Senior Engineer will be responsible for coordinating the onsite operations of our four in-house studios in Manhattan, supporting technical and logistical needs of all titles in recording, editing, QC, and other related stages. Seeking candidates with in-depth experience in spoken audio recording, editing, and VIP sessions. Strong skills in communication, organization, prioritization, and willingness to adapt and grow will be critical for success.
Responsibilities:
- Record, edit, process, mix, master, and format audio for various media formats
- Collaborate with producers, directors, voice talents, post-production managers, and other division staff
- Ensure high quality and consistency of audio deliverables according to spec
- Troubleshoot and maintain audio and related computer equipment and software
- Stay updated on the latest industry trends and technologies
- Schedule and perform pickup recordings
- Recruit, hire, and schedule freelance recording engineers for sessions and provide training and tech support
- Coordinate, support, and/or perform offsite recordings when necessary
- When necessary, train other production staff for in-session norms and etiquette
- Vet outside studios and home studios and communicate findings to all relevant parties
- Review audio files and provide guidance in improving the quality according to our specifications
- Perform onsite office admin duties such as building access, lunch orders, ordering supplies, keeping studios tidy, etc.
- Backup Coverage: Metadata vetting, runtime announcements, and archiving
Requirements:
- At least 5 continuous years of in-session and hands-on experience in professional voice recording and sound editing
- At least 3 years of experience in working with high-profile celebrities, authors, politicians, and other VIPs
- Diverse recording experience in high-stakes environments addressing room acoustics, various instruments, recording techniques, microphones, and audio processing gear (old and new)
- Proficient in Pro Tools, Reaper, Adobe Audition or similar software
- Proficient in noise reduction techniques and software
- In-depth knowledge of audio formats, standards, metadata, and best practices
- Fluency in using cloud services for storage, shared work, automation, etc.
- Must be highly organized to work in a large team and high-volume environment with dozens of different stakeholders
- Strong communication, teamwork, flexibility, adaptability, and problem-solving skills
- Working proficiency with database and automated workflows
- Passion for audiobooks and creativity
- Any coding, IT admin, or project management experience a plus
The salary range for this position is $67,000 - $75,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
