A Glimpse of the Job

The Bush School in Washington, D.C. is seeking an Assistant Director, Career Programming to play a pivotal role in empowering students to achieve their career goals while expanding the School’s employer network. This highly collaborative, student-focused position designs and delivers innovative career development programs, provides personalized career coaching, and cultivates meaningful partnerships with employers and alumni to support internship and employment outcomes. The role serves as a key ambassador for Bush School talent, promoting students and academic programs to organizations across the region and nation. You will have the opportunity to develop engaging workshops and resources, manage recruitment events and employer relations, and drive continuous program improvement while encouraging student success. Working closely with colleagues in both Washington, D.C. and College Station, the Assistant Director helps advance a unified vision for career services while creating exceptional opportunities that prepare Bush School students for impactful careers.

What You Need to Know

Salary: Starting at $75,000/annually (Compensation will be commensurate to the selected hire’s experience).

Other Requirements and Factors: This position requires a willingness to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Six years of full-time professional level experience in academic, business, government, or nonprofit sector; three years of government or public sector experience.

A Well-Qualified Candidate Will Also Possess:

  • Master’s degree in public administration or international affairs, human resource development or management, student personnel/development, vocational counseling, educational administration, or business administration.

  • Three or more years of professional experience in academic, government, nonprofit, or other public sector experience, including at least 1 year in career services, career counseling, human resource management/development, staffing and recruiting, or marketing.

  • Knowledge of the Security Clearance Process.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written communication, presentation, and advising skills to include career advising skills.

  • The ability to work well in a team environment, work collaboratively and closely with coworkers and constituents (i.e., students, faculty, university administrators, employee executives and managers).

  • Knowledge of the dynamics of the employment marketplace, preferably for public administration, nonprofit management, and international affairs graduate students, as well as the employers and an ability to address those individual and group needs.

  • Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize work and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Working knowledge of computers; business level knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel.

  • The ability to utilize a learning management system (LMS).

  • Strong analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge of working within the constraints of a budget.

  • Knowledge of the present and potential future applications of technology and online resources.

  • Marketing/public relations skills.
