What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience.  New hires are typically brought into the organization between $131,770 - $177,890/annually, based on experience and education. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

The City and County of Denver has announced furlough days, or unpaid days off, for most employees to meet a budget shortfall in 2025. There are two fixed furlough days for all limited (temporary positions with an end date) and unlimited (permanent) employees on August 29th, the Friday before Labor Day, and November 28th, the day after Thanksgiving. If you receive an offer for this position, your annual pay will determine whether you are required to take additional furlough days. Details will be discussed during the offer process for selected candidate(s). 

Location & Schedule

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. In this position you can expect to work 3 days/week at the Richard T. Castro Building at 1200 Federal Boulevard, Denver, CO. Employee parking at the building is free.

The Denver City Attorney’s Office is seeking a Senior Assistant City Attorney to join the Employment Law Unit within the Human Services Section of the Department of Law.

This position offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive legal counsel to Denver Human Services officials and employees, and to represent the agency in employment-related matters before administrative agencies, as well as in trial and appellate courts. This position also handles some administrative hearings concerning benefits appeals.

We are looking for a seasoned litigator with substantial experience in employment law, civil rights, and labor law. The ideal candidate will bring a strong litigation background, sound judgment, and a commitment to public service. The attorneys regularly appear in all federal and state courts, as well as in administrative hearings.

Specifically, as a Senior Assistant City Attorney, you will:

  • Independently prepare administrative hearings and complex cases for trial, such as those at the federal district court, including development of motions and civil discovery, and represents Denver Human Services in those proceedings, as well as corresponding appellate briefing and argument

  • Negotiate and prepare settlement agreements, ordinances, resolutions, and other legal documents as necessary

  • Draft and prepare memoranda, motions, briefs, and pleadings to be filed in judicial or quasi-judicial proceedings

  • Provide agency officers and employees with counsel and advice regarding various employment law issues, reviews and prepares discipline and other employment-relate
