The Fleet Transportation Mechanic creates and maintains policies and procedures related to the management of Mayo fleet vehicles. We are looking for a skilled auto mechanic to maintain and repair vehicles. The Fleet Transportation Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting issues and repairing them to maximum reliability and functionality. Principal duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: vehicle assignment and tracking; conducting of preventative maintenance/repair scheduling; complete routine maintenance work and repair/replace any dysfunctional parts aiming to improve vehicle functionality and longevity; assistance and guidance regarding vehicle check-out/check-in procedures; scheduling of future maintenance sessions and advise motorists on proper vehicle use; and maintain equipment and tools in good condition. Ability to explain technical diagnosis and needed repairs to non-mechanical individuals which includes key enterprise stakeholders. Requires knowledge of state and federal regulations, Mayo Clinic organizational policies, and work unit operations. Utilizes continuous improvement methods to enhance the quality, availability and utilization of Mayo fleet vehicles. The Fleet Transportation Mechanic will work collaboratively with the MGR-General Service and/or Supervisor-General Service in regards to the following: researching replacement vehicle information and creating annual budget recommendations regarding the procurement and/or sale of vehicles; reviewing and placing purchase orders, and working to resolve invoice/receipt problems; ensuring proper licensing and purchase/lease agreement issues are handled in the most cost effective manner; reviewing operational cost data as well as identifying expense management initiatives; reviewing and paying vendor statements for services rendered and disbursements to other departments as appropriate.
High school diploma is required. Bachelor’s degree in related field required or 5+ years automotive mechanic experience. Must demonstrate aptitude to troubleshoot mechanical equipment, and possess automotive mechanical experience. Diesel mechanic experience is preferred. Must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written/oral communication skills. Must be able to work independently, and possess mature judgment and problem-solving skills. Must possess basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word), and fleet software used for data entry and various fleet functions. Previous leadership experience is preferred. Must have a valid Florida driver’s license. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in the following: Automobile & Light Truck Certification (A Series), Auto Maintenance and Light Repair Certification (G Series) required within 12 months of hire.
