Overview & Responsibilities
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
This position was designed to direct and control the planning, processing and scheduling activities related to Elliott Donora bearing orders. The Production Planner and Estimator coordinates pre- and post-contract requirements in accordance with customer and Elliott specifications. The general function of the job includes utilizing existing and new computer assisted systems, establishing schedule priorities, evaluating cost, creating shop travelers and taking necessary actions to prevent and resolve overload conditions and delays in the manufacturing process working with the Shop Supervisor.
The Production Planner and Estimator is also expected to ensure compliance with the Department Operations Manual, drawings and all applicable Work Instructions in support of Elliott Safety, Quality and ISO requirements.
BACKGROUND and EXPERIENCE
BS Degree required, although equivalent experience will be considered. A Production Planner and Estimator must possess experience in a manufacturing environment with strengths in production and inventory control, capacity and materials requirements planning, and production / shop floor activity control.
An Elliott Production Planner and Estimator must have ability to read and comprehend mechanical and geometric drawings, along with an understanding of design, material and process specifications and how they can have effect on durations and schedules.
An understanding of standard manufacturing route sheet structure, standard hours, durations, lead times, and key metrics such as utilization, efficiency and productivity.
Successful planners possess a background in team-oriented environments, a positive attitude, an ability to effect and accept change, a demonstrated ability to make well informed decisions and a positive perspective regarding the work environment.
Excellent communication skills are required, along with the ability to influence other departments and disciplines to work together to meet the needs of the customer. Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning, Project Life Cycle Management and Material Requirement Planning systems and excellent computer skills are required.
Experience with multi-level bill of material structure is required, knowledge of Elliott product lines is preferred.
Experience in a manufacturing environment and basic knowledge of fabrication and machining manufacturing processes is preferred.
NATURE OF THE JOB
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Reviewing all manufactured and purchased customer requirements
Assist with cyclical inventory analysis and review
Securing all necessary technical support for component processing
Identifying and initiating procurement of raw and finished materials for the manufacture of components parts
Evaluating work center load information
Calculating delivery estimates to support sales quoting process
Maintaining accurate data files
Relieving capacity restraints by developing and implementing corrective actions
Providing order status to Elliott management, project management, other business units, Sodegaura and customers as necessary.
Create manufacturing route sheets.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS
This position requires regular contact with all departments within Elliott Company, including but not limited to: Manufacturing, Purchasing, Engineering, Drafting, Inventory, Maintenance, Safety, Service Shops, Field Services, On-site Services, Sales, Marketing, Project Management, Finance, Human Resources and Quality.
Requires periodic contact with customer representatives, suppliers and subcontractors.
SUPERVISION
The person who holds this position is primarily an individual contributor; however, he or she must possess the ability to supervise, guide and direct the activities necessary to achieve customer satisfaction. This position requires the ability to elicit teamwork and cooperation from persons who are not direct reports, but who are critical to the completion of a task or project.
