About the role

Description

The Department of Laboratory Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine, in concert with VA Connecticut Medical Center, seeks a Clinical Pathologist to serve as the Medical Director for Transfusion Medicine at the VA Connecticut.  The selectee must be certified in Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology [ABP], with or without certification in Anatomic Pathology.  ABP board-certification or -eligibility in Transfusion Medicine is highly desirable. The position also involves general clinical pathology responsibilities, including especially Microbiology. Board-certification or -eligibility in Medical Microbiology or equivalent is desirable. The position is accompanied by an appointment at Yale School of Medicine at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, depending on qualifications.

Serving veterans in Connecticut and southern New England, the VA Connecticut is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level I-a Facility and one of the most complex medical centers in the VA system. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs.  VA Connecticut has 55,558 unique and a total of 722,892 outpatient visits per year as well as 191 inpatient beds. Its primary site is in West Haven, CT near Yale University’s two major campuses in New Haven and in West Haven. It also has a major outpatient facility in Newington, CT and an additional 6 outpatient facilities across the state of Connecticut. VA Connecticut supports the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine residency program at Yale as well as pathology subspecialty fellowships in Transfusion Medicine, Microbiology, and Hematopathology, along with a Pathologist Assistant training program. It is also the home to three national VA reference laboratories: Virology, Mycobacteriology, and Molecular Diagnostics / Pharmacogenetics. It is one of the most active VA medical centers nationally in research, with approximately 500 active research projects, funded with approximately $45 million in grants, and run by 80 Yale principal investigators.
