 Position Title: Counselor – Behavioral Health (MS Senior Licensed)Location: Methodist HospitalShift: Full-Time, Night
 Position Overview:The Senior Licensed Counselor provides advanced clinical services within a supportive, therapeutic environment. This role involves individual, group, and family counseling, conducting complex discharge planning, and performing utilization reviews. The Counselor collaborates extensively with healthcare teams, community agencies, and protective services to ensure patient safety, effective treatment, and resource coordination. The Senior Counselor also leads internship programs, provides clinical supervision for license-eligible staff, and manages high-risk and crisis situations with leadership and expertise.
 Key Responsibilities:Facilitate individual, group, and family counseling sessions, including crisis intervention and addiction assessments.  Conduct psychosocial assessments evaluating prior functioning, support systems, reactions to illness, and coping skills.  Provide therapeutic interventions and mental health assessments upon physician referral.  Support complex discharge planning, including end-of-life, guardianship, foster care, adoption, and mental health placements.  Lead clinical interventions in dangerous or potentially dangerous situations, utilizing de-escalation and crisis management techniques.  Serve as the point person for cases involving child abuse/neglect, adult/elderly abuse/neglect, institutional abuse, and domestic violence.  Act as liaison between IU Health, protective teams, law enforcement, and community agencies.  Provide specialized mental health services, including crisis intervention, addiction assessments, and psychiatric referrals.  Lead and supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s level interns through practicum placements.  Provide clinical supervision to license-eligible staff (LSW, LMHC-A, LMFT-A).  Model caring practices and interpret complex patient/family needs to other caregivers.  Ensure a safe, therapeutic environment and instruct patients on daily activities and programming.  Maintain proficiency in Electronic Medical Records and MS Office applications.  Develop and sustain collaborative relationships with community organizations, law enforcement, schools, and healthcare teams.
 
 Qualifications & Requirements:Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related mental health field.  Indiana license in good standing as an LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, LCAC, or HSPP.  5-7 years of relevant post-Master’s experience in healthcare, mental health, or community-based settings.  Certification in crisis intervention may be required.  BLS certification may be required.  Extensive knowledge of psychosocial assessment, therapeutic counseling, crisis intervention, and de-escalation techniques.  Proficiency in evidence-based practices such as CBT, MI, and DBT.  Knowledge of legal mandates related to child and adult protective services.  Strong understanding of human development principles across the lifespan.  Ability to provide leadership in high-risk situations and manage dangerous or potentially dangerous scenarios.  Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong community, medical, law enforcement, and agency relationships.  Basic proficiency in Electronic Medical Records and MS Office Suite.
 
 Additional Information:Provides clinical supervision to licensed and license-eligible staff.  Leads internship programs for Bachelor’s and Master’s level students.  Supports patients through complex psychosocial, legal, and clinical challenges with leadership and compassion.
