Summary:
The Sr. WMS Engineer is a critical support role for the automated Warehouse Management System (WMS) platform and services provided to Maersk Contract Logistics (MCL) clients. Maersk Contract Logistics is a dynamic and growing distribution, logistics, and transportation organization seeking to enhance and expand its WMS capabilities and utilization. MCL currently employs four WMS platforms to manage its different product categories: Manhattan Associates’ Integrated Logistics System (ILS/SCALE) WMS and Maersk WMS (Legacy Infor Code) for fulfillment operations, as well as WebEC and SoftPoint (homegrown) for transload and cross-dock operations.
The successful candidate must be flexible, self-motivated, well-organized, and detail-oriented, with experience in a fast-paced third-party logistics environment. They must possess strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively across multiple levels of the organization, as well as function well within a team context. Additionally, the candidate should have a strong desire to develop application software expertise and a passion for assisting business users in maximizing WMS applications. Patience, innovation, and persistence in overcoming resistance to change are essential.
This role requires continuous documentation of application configurations, support issues and resolutions, user feedback, and frequently asked questions. The candidate should also have the confidence to challenge legacy operational processes, encourage WMS best practices (especially in replacing manual processes with automated WMS solutions), and propose viable process alternatives.
Typical Work Activities:
- Collaborate with IT personnel and operational users to identify and deploy WMS functional solutions within project timelines.
- Provide technical support by responding to inquiries and help desk tickets regarding WMS application errors, problems, or questions.
- Offer technical assistance for WMS user training, including analyzing and contributing technical inputs for training materials, and assist in the qualification and certification of WMS users before and after training.
- Monitor and analyze help desk support issues to identify WMS training deficiencies and provide relevant feedback to the WMS training team as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Respond to user and customer requests for WMS application support.
- Understand the details behind WMS graphical user interfaces (screen layouts), printed outputs, and system interfaces. Design WMS printed outputs (reports and carton labels).
- Possess extensive knowledge of RESTful APIs and application integrations.
- Troubleshoot API responses and logs to identify root causes.
- Consult with users and customers to gather information regarding WMS functional requirements, including needs, objectives, features, and input/output specifications.
- Define and document requirements for data, workflow processes, system interfaces, internal and external data validation, and outputs.
- Analyze and estimate feasibility, resources, and time required to implement WMS functional requirements. Participate in project planning by outlining steps and timelines for customer-specific WMS functional flows.
- Participate in testing of existing and new WMS features, including creating test transactions and executing tests to identify errors and confirm compliance with requirements.
- Write and maintain technical WMS configuration documentation and specifications, updating summary documentation of WMS application features.
- Assist the WMS training team with end-user and technical support training as needed.
