Position Description:

This position reports directly to the Managing Directors, designated Vice Presidents from Moran and McAllister who comprise CES Management. Established in 2003, Chesapeake Energy Services, LLC is jointly operated by Moran Towing Corporation and McAllister Towing to provide dedicated marine services to LNG vessels at the Dominion Cove Point terminal.  Under the direction of CES Management, the CES General Manager is responsible for ensuring that the CES assigned tugs meet CES operational requirements outlined in the CES Port Specific Operational Guidance (PSOG). Including arranging with Dominion Cove Point LNG clearance for the tugs to enter the Security Zone in effect around the terminal and ensuring the adequacy of vessel-to-shore communication, either through the CES base station at Ship Point, or through the McAllister Dispatcher in Newport News, Virginia.  The General Manager is responsible for managing the Ship Point facility in Lusby, Maryland and acting as the onsite landlord for tenants.  The General Manager communicates with customers, vendors, and regulatory agencies as required and with McAllister and Moran personnel in operational and support functions throughout the Company. 

Specific Responsibilities to include, but are not limited to: 

Operations: 

  • Ensures the adequacy of vessel support services at Ship Point.
  • Represents CES in supervising contractors hired to perform work at the Ship Point facility.
  • Engages in community outreach efforts on behalf of CES.
  • Coordinates CES participation in the activities of Dominion Cove Point LNG, local law enforcement, and local emergency services providers.
  • Ensures that the Ship Point facility conforms with all applicable safety, security, and environmental standards.
  • Maintains on-site records associated with CES operations at Ship Point.
  • Provides reports to CES Management with the frequency necessary to maintain effective corporate level situational awareness of CES operations. 
  • Manages all property at the Ships Point terminal, including acting as point of contact with commercial tenants and real estate agents.

  Required qualifications:

  • Minimum two-year college degree, with a bachelor’s degree in transportation or marine engineering preferred. However, experience will be factored with education.
  • Valid driver’s license and Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). 
  • Proven successful management experience and demonstrated strong leadership skills and decisive decision-making. 
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to take initiative, multi-task, interpret data, speak publicly, operate in stressful situations, and make quick decisions. 
  • Intermediate level Microsoft Office computer skills, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. 

Preferred qualifications:

  • A valid MMC with Master of Towing Vessels.
  • Prior Real Estate Experience (Maryland, Virginia area)
  • Experience working in the Maritime Industry to include LNG Terminal Operations Experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Being able to board a vessel while moored via tug dock landing or underway via crew boat and withstand tug motion and high temperature areas for periods of time.
  • Crossing bulwarks, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing ladders and stairs. 
  • Stooping, bending; and sitting for prolonged periods of time using a keyboard and computer screen.
