Job Description
Join an exciting opportunity to bring modern software to the Navy’s warfighters.
The Software Architecture and Engineering Team is responsible for establishing best engineering practices and guidelines around the design of Software Applications and Products across the organization. Software Architects, also known as Principal Software Engineers, are Lead or Principal Software Engineers with broad experience, who also know Design Patterns and many techniques and aspects of designing good software, including techniques for logical separation of concerns and functionality.
Responsibilities of the Software Architects include, but are not limited to...
- Establishing Engineering best practices and guidelines for software design and implementation across the organization.
- Provide hands-on experience, guidance, and strategy, around Design Pattern solutions and their application, Modular Code, Microservices Design, Service Oriented Architectures, Event and Test Driven Design, Model Based Systems Engineering (Model Based Design, Model Driven Design), separation of Data/Interface/Processing layers, and reusable function and code design, and similar techniques.
- Establishing reusable templates and code libraries, and processes and guidelines for contributing to them, and evangelizing their shared use across the organization.
- Provide strategy and guidelines for consolidating and standardizing implementation solutions for future reuse.
- Collaborating with Software Application Product teams each sprint, to provide consultation and guidance around design of implementation solutions.
- Lead Design Review boards and discussions.
- Design and Develop Prototypes and Proofs of Concepts.
- Encourage and facilitate knowledge sharing and upskilling among software engineers.
- Cataloging and maintaining an inventory of implementation solutions across the organization.
- Also have many of the qualifications of a Senior/Lead/Principal Software Engineer, including the following skills:
- Hands-on experience with at least 3 different programming languages (i.e. Java, Node/JavaScript, C#, Python, Perl).
- Hands-on experience with at least 2 different databases, including at least one Relational Database, and one NoSQL Database (i.e. Postgres, MSSQL, Oracle, MariaDB/MySQL, MongoDB, Redis).
- Hands-on experience with at least 2 User Interface Frameworks (i.e. Bootstrap, JQuery, Vue, Next).
- Understands APIs, Microservices, and/or Server-Client application interactions and design, with hands-on experience in at least one of those areas.
- Experience running code reviews and mentoring junior developers.
- Knowledge of caching, indexing, and queuing technologies preferred.
Qualifications
- Ability to obtain a Secret or Top Secret Government clearance.
- At least 7 years of software engineering experience.
- At least 4 years of experience in the commercial industry sector preferred.
- At least 1 year of experience leading a team as a lead software engineer.
- At least 1 year of experience as a Principal Software Engineer, Software Architect, or Lead Software Engineer, helping teams and organizations make final decisions on architecture and technology decisions.
- At least 1 year of experience running and participating in code reviews for a team.
- At least 1 year of hands-on coding experience in each of 3 of the following programming languages: C/C++, C#, Java, Go, NodeJS, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Perl, PHP.
- At least 1 year of hands-on coding experience designing and implementing databas
