The Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) at The University of Texas at Austin is one of the leading supercomputing centers in the world, supporting advances in computational research by thousands of researchers and students. The Large Scale Systems group is seeking a Systems Administrator to provide technical expertise to TACC’s High Performance Computing (HPC) facility. These activities will enhance the research programs of the UT academic research community, the NSF ACCESS community, and other UT partner institutions. This position requires advanced knowledge of storage hardware configuration, parallel filesystem design and operation, and Linux systems administration. Preferred qualifications include expertise in working with Linux-based clusters, high performance computing (HPC) software environments, high-speed interconnects such as InfiniBand, and parallel file systems such as Lustre or BeeGFS. A significant grasp of Linux/Unix shells and scripting languages will also be necessary to perform in this role.

Purpose
This position will be responsible for evaluating new storage architectures, systems, and software tools to determine the best techniques for achieving performance in addition to identifying future acquisitions targets.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and expand existing production storage resources
- Provide project leadership role on production storage systems
- Provide support to current systems administration staff on Linux clusters
- Work with members of the LSS group to diagnose problems and performance issues specific to storage hardware, parallel filesystems, and IO performance
- Work with members of the HPC group to diagnose problems and performance issues specific to storage performance for user code that is considered IO-bound.
- Evaluate new storage architectures, systems, and software tools to determine the best techniques for achieving performance and to identify future acquisition targets
- Respond to emergency situations involving system problems, downtime and security breaches
- Create and maintain documentation aligned with TACC’s workflow tracking methodology
- Create and maintain code and configuration files in version controlled systems.
- Perform additional storage-related tasks, as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant professional experience
- Familiarity with system software package management, patch
