About the role

The North West Region is seeking a General Surgeon to join a department of four surgeons to provide broad general surgery care in a regional setting. The department provides care to the North West of Tasmania and is supported by four surgical registrars. The position covers elective and emergency work.  

The role:

  • Provide skilled and high quality specialist General Surgery services for the patients of the North West, within the limits of specified clinical privileges.

Details of Appointment

Permanent, full time, day worker (with on-call) position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from 3 February 2025

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

Salary:

Specialist Medical Practitioners

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 11.5% superannuation + access to salary packaging 

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 - $310,489 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

  • Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,389 per annum, pro rata
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 per annum, pro rata
  • Relocation and commencement support available up to $15,000 for approved appointees
  • other allowances as applicable

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant speciality

  2. Current Driver’s Licence

    *Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  1. Fellow of the Royal Australasian Surgeons (FRACS) or equivalent

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
