Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Operations & Chief of Staff, the Director of Faculty & Staff Development will have primary responsibility for ensuring the orderly operations of faculty affairs, serving as the point of contact with our HR Business partner (HRBP) for the school’s human resources functions, and supporting the professional development of our professional staff. Partners closely with school leadership and serves in an advisory role to develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, guidelines, and operational processes related to faculty affairs and administration. Will also be responsible for identifying opportunities to improve systems and processes and helping ensure consistency and effectiveness across faculty-related operations.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Faculty Affairs

  • Collaborating with the Associate Dean for Faculty, the Director will lead administrative and operational support for Brown School faculty affairs, including assuring personnel, governance, recruitment, finance, communications, and event planning functions are conducted with attention to deadlines, accuracy, and the positive culture of our school community. This position provides support to the Promotion & Tenure Committee as well as the Personnel Advisory Committee.
  • Faculty Development & Evaluation (Annual Review). Manages all aspects of the annual review process including planning, coordinating, and supporting the annual reviews.
  • Manage faculty recruitment visits.

Faculty and Staff Support and Development Program Coordination

  • Serves as the school liaison with WashU Human Resources and the assigned HRBP, assuring that all human resources actions for the school are addressed in a timely and compassionate way, consistent with WashU policies and legal guidelines. 
  • Faculty & Staff onboarding and orientation- works in collaboration with the HRBP, Dean’s office, and Operations to outline best practices and procedures.   
  • Works with unit leaders to ensure supervisors are consistently supporting staff in meeting organizational objectives.  Identify areas where staff may need additional guidance, training, or clearer expectations. Develop mechanisms that help ensure staff productivity and alignment with school priorities.
  • Develops and distributes communications around faculty & staff development activities. 
  • Coordinates faculty and staff development events, workshops, program, seminars, learning communities and conferences designed to improve teaching, learning, and overall organizational effectiveness.
