Your New Role
The department focuses on the development, finance, and production of fictional productions (series, mini-series, individual films) together with mainly foreign producers / production companies in the form of co-productions for exploitation on German-language broadcasters / platforms; in - depending on the project - different weighting and division of labor, whereby the potential marketability on the German-language market is always in the foreground when selecting projects for WB Germany.
The Development Producer / Co-production Coordinator works closely with the producer on both the content and production levels in the selection, development, finance, and implementation of the corresponding projects.
Travel requirements: Semi-regular travel to European destinations for business meetings and creative exchanges.
Your Role Accountabilities
Content / dramaturgical
- Independent analysis and evaluation of submitted concepts, project proposals, scripts, rough cuts, finished films / episodes. Preparation of detailed notes and analyses as a basis for further development and editing. Contributing own ideas and suggestions as part of the further development of the project / format.
- Contributing to and coordinating the further development of existing formats / series (long-term narrative arc, episode-based narrative arc).
- Direct contact with authors / creatives. Supervision of existing development processes (contact with authors, supervision deadlines, contract fulfillment).
- Editing of texts, concepts, scripts. Creation of summaries, pitch material, etc. (both texts and visual concepts; the latter also in cooperation with the graphics department and external service providers).
- Attending, or depending on the circumstance, independently attending author / book meetings, Writer's Rooms, etc., including following up on the development process (rewrite protocol, monitoring and tracking the rewrite process).
- Building new relationships with creators and producers.
- Perspective: content-related / possibly overall responsibility for own projects.
Organizational / production
- Tracking / coordination of ongoing development and production processes. Administration and maintenance of all production relevant documents, overview of all relevant deadlines.
- Organization and coordination of deadlines, travel, accounts, reports, (post-)production steps (e.g. writers rooms, castings, dubbing work, marketing and press appointments) arising in the development, financing and production process; in coordination with the responsible producer and with the production management and post-production departments.
- Liaison person of the company's internal departments HL, Legal, Finance, Postproduction; also (in coordination with the responsible producer) with the corresponding departments of the external production partners.
- Participation and representation of the company at domestic and foreign summits, conferences, festivals.
Qualifications and Experience
- Fluent in English and and business level German
- Relevant professional experience in the editorial or production environment of a production company or TV station / platform.
- Strong understanding of content / dramaturgy.
- Secure overview of relevant German broadcasting slots, ongoing formats, editorial teams, program profiles of broadcasters and streaming platforms, other market participants in the field of co-production.
- Solid network of internationally active creatives, producers, broadcasters/platforms (advantageous)Relevant professional experience in the editorial or production environment of a production company or TV station / platform.
- Previous experience with international productions / co-productions, including international financing and legal structuring. (advantageous)
