Position Overview:
A division of Raytheon Technologies, Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, auxiliary and ground power units, and small turbojet propulsion products. Founded by Frederick Rentschler in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1925, Pratt & Whitney’s first aircraft engine transformed the aviation industry. The Compression Systems Engineering (CSE) organization is looking for a goal-oriented, detail-focused mechanical design engineer to support the F135 HPC Component Integrated Product Teams (CIPT). The selected candidate will be required to take on support and leadership roles in complex high priority tasks. This position requires proven technical capabilities, leadership skills, excellent communication skills, self-sufficiency, and willingness to work in a team environment.
Currently this position is a hybrid position where the employee works 3 core days onsite, and the remainder of the week may be worked from home via a company provided home work station.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop innovative and technically sound design solutions within program schedule milestones. Current focus area will be the F135 HPC Engine Core Upgrade program.
Additional responsibilities may include:
- Analysis and disposition of non-conformances for new and fielded parts.
- Develop serviceable limits for engine part wear for the USAF and foreign military customers.
- Collaboration with multi-disciplinary Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
- Design lead for investigation of military engine field incidents reported by customer leading to root cause and corrective action.
- Lead or support producibility improvement investigations with manufacturing vendors.
- Assist in creation of safety risk analysis and develop risk mitigation plans.
- Apply sophisticated solid modeling and analysis tools in a highly proficient manner.
- Present and communicate results to customers and program management.
- Guide and mentor entry level engineers.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering and 5+ years of Mechanical Design, turbine engine, engineering experience required, OR, an advanced degree with 3+ years of Mechanical Design, turbine engine, engineering experience required.
- 10% annual travel and with consideration of current Covid 19 health and safety precautions.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
Preferred Qualifications:
- M.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering.
- High proficiency in MS Office/excel.
- HPC rotating & static hardware experience.
- Experience with Teamcenter and SAP.
- Proficiency in analysis tools such as ANSYS, Unigraphix NX and workbench, or similar systems experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with engineering standard work, Class I and II EC process.
