Role Summary
This role is responsible for the engineering and reliable operations of Cloud Platforms that support Alaska Air Group. They are responsible for executing Alaska’s Cloud strategy which includes architectural designs and best practices, defining cloud standards and implementing governance controls. As a people leader, this role will promote cross-departmental collaboration and take lead in driving process and systems improvements, with a focus on operational stability and cloud adoption.
Key Duties
- Leads a diverse technical team responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency and security of multiple Cloud platforms including Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Shape the long-term strategy and planning for cloud architecture and adoption while collaborating with key stakeholders.
- Analyze the gap and provide solutions between development team requirements and our cloud practices and strategy
- Creates cloud governance practices, policies and cost controls. Collaborates with subscription owners to ensure compliance and develop self service capabilities to streamline infrastructure workflows.
- Influence operations and development teams to ensure new capabilities are operationalized.
- Leads and/or influences cross divisional enterprise infrastructure projects related to Cloud Platforms
- Develops and cultivates people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on delegation for stretch assignments, growing and developing the team for capacity and growth, looking at performance across the team, and time management.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
- 7 years of experience in IT, or related area.
- 4 years of leadership experience, with at least some of this experience directly leading people.
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus in a technical discipline, or an additional two years of relevant training/ experience in lieu of this degree.
- In-depth knowledge of the following:
- Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Docker and Kubernetes - Container Builds, Hosting, and Orchestration
- Modernizing highly complex and critical applications to modern cloud architectures
- Cloud Architectural Design and Review, Patterns and Practices Implementation
- Infrastructure as Code (ARM, Terraform, etc), Azure DevOps, CI/CD
- Proven ability to build, coach, and mentor teams.
- Writes business cases to gain support from senior leaders.
- Define the long-term strategy for multiple cloud platforms and their implementation.
- Adaptive leader, sensitive to the needs of the team, and creating a culture of belonging.
- Loves learning and development, embraces the practice of service leadership, and builds teams that are engage, thrive, and deliver results.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Starting Rate
Salary Range
$165,500 - $256,550 / yearBonus
Salary Details
Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
