About Marie Philip School:

MPS enrolls nearly 150 deaf and hard of hearing students on our Framingham, MA campus in an ASL/English bilingual, bicultural educational model. 

About Walden School:

Walden School is a nationally-recognized residential therapeutic and education program for deaf children and youth ages 8 to 22 who have often experienced significant adverse childhood events as well as language deprivation.

About Support Services:

Provide Physical Therapy services for pediatric deaf/hard of hearing population ages 3-22 with diagnoses such as, learning disabilities, developmental delays, cerebral palsy, emotional/behavioral concerns, CHARGE, Vestibular impairment, Cortical Vision Impairment, Down Syndrome, Autism. Responsibilities include direct treatment, assessment, consultation to teachers and IEP goal development. Intervention services are designed to enhance the student's potential for learning, to assist the student in acquiring those functional performance skills needed to participate in and benefit from the educational environment, and to help the student function independently.

The support services team includes Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language therapy. Physical therapists work closely with these professionals, along with educational staff and students’ families. Services may include individual or co-treatment sessions. 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide Physical Therapy services for the pediatric population with a primary diagnosis of deafness or hard of hearing along with other diagnoses such as, learning disabilities, developmental delays, cerebral palsy, emotional/behavioral concerns, CHARGE, Vestibular impairment, Cortical Vision Impairment, Down Syndrome, Autism. Services will include evaluations, goal development, direct and consultative treatment, and adapted equipment support. Also, the Physical Therapist will provide appropriate intervention services designed to enhance the student’s potential for learning, assist the student in acquiring those functional skills needed to participate in and benefit from the educational environment, and help the student function independently. 

SUPERVISOR: Support Services Coordinator 

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs all duties within compliance of the APTA recommended guidelines for practice and code of ethics. 

Performs student evaluations and screenings pre-referrals, once appropriate consent is obtained. 

Establishes treatment goals, objectives and plans that are educationally relevant and will be used in the student’s educational programs. 

Communicates findings and recommendations of evaluations of Physical Therapy services to educational staff, parents, students and when appropriate to other professionals and agencies concerned with the student. 

Provides reassessment of students focusing on areas of need at intervals determined to be educationally relevant. 

Consults with other members of the educational team and the family to plan appropriate programs for each student as needed. 

Provides consultation to the educational system regarding student needs, professional needs, and system needs in order for the system to achieve its goals and objectives.
