JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State Abington’s Division of Arts and Humanities seeks an instructor in African American Studies for a part-time appointment to begin in August 2026. This is a one-semester, non-tenure track appointment with the possibility of reappointment. Candidates with a student-centered, innovative, and engaging approach to teaching are encouraged to apply.

Job Duties

  • The successful candidate will teach one introductory-level course in African American literature, history, or culture. There may be an opportunity to teach an additional section. 

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Preference for candidates with a PhD or ABD status in African American Studies, English, History, or related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level is preferred.
  • Applicants must have the ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse student population.

  • A list of courses taught at the college level
  • A sample syllabus or statement of teaching philosophy
