The Assistant Director of Intramural & Club Sports provides leadership and direction in the development, administration, and evaluation of a comprehensive Intramural & Club Sports program, including student, faculty and staff intramural programs and a competitive club sport program. Serves during summer months as the Director of the Emory Sports Fitness Camp. Trains, supervises, and evaluates one (1) full-time Intramural & Club Sports Coordinator, (1) graduate assistant indirectly, 16 part time coaches, 30 summer employees, and a dynamic student staff. This position directly reports to the Associate Director of Recreation & Wellness. The Intramural & Club Sports program provides structured programming options to foster lifetime habits of health and wellbeing, learning, leadership, and inclusion for the Emory community.
This position has equal programmatic responsibilities at both the Woodruff Physical Education Center (WPEC) and the Student Activity and Academic Center (SAAC) recreational facilities. Responsibilities include a wide variety of administrative and supervisory duties including, but not limited to, personnel management, fiscal management, strategic planning, professional and student development, risk management, facility management, marketing/promotions, rules, and policy development. This position is a full-time, twelve-month, exempt professional staff member within the Department of Athletics and Recreation and reports to the Associate Director of Recreation and Wellness.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Management & Administration
- Designs, develops, and implements a diversified and comprehensive Intramural, Club Sports and Summer Camp program. This includes, but is not limited to, intramural and clubs sport program administration, strategic planning, policy development, scheduling, staff training, assessment, risk management, special events, budget oversight, marketing, and equipment management.
- Develops short-term and long-term goals for the Intramural & Club Sports program with a formal assessment process. Maintains statistical data for all programs within areas of responsibility.
- Provides direction, guidance, and training to all club sports officers and advisors to ensure compliance with all departmental and university rules and regulations, fostering leadership/personal development and sound financial management.
- Creates and leads professional development and wellness clinics for Club Sport Coaches and Athletes.
- Advises the Club Sport Council and individual teams with budgeting, fiscal forecasting, traveling, goal setting, recruiting, and marketing.
- Coordinates daily practice and game schedules, travel procedures and requirements, facility reservations & membership policies of the Club Sport program.
- Maintains the Intramural & Club Sports website, membership database, and online forms required by the University. - Serves as the Camp Director of the Emory Sports Fitness Camp.
- Designs, develops, and implements a high-quality curriculum for campers ages 5-12.
- Maintains current knowledge of intramural, club sport and summer camp trends and related challenges within Higher Education.
- Serves as a department ranking staff member on duty for recreational programs, which includes, but is not limited to, serving as a first responder for emergency situations and providing emergency care, providing customer service, resolving conflicts, and making decisions and judgments regarding program and facility usage.
- Provides input on departmental policy decisions and strategic planning.
- Serves in an on-call function to support athletic and recreation facilities and programs.
Financial Management
- Prepares, forecasts, and monitors ~$350,000 annual budget for all Intramural & Club Sports programs, including intramural sports, club sports and self-generated summer camp programs.
- Ensures that program budgets comply within University and Department guidelines, policy, and procedures.
- Maintains records of program participation, revenue generation, and expenditures.
- Consistently monitors all revenue and expense budgets pertaining to the Intramural & Club Sports area.
- Monitors and maintains records of all club capital equipment including verifying insurance coverage as required, verifying vehicle inventory and coordinate equipment purchases/replacements.
